Beauty Matters More In Urban Areas

Written by Keiron Walsh
I'm considering a move to the countryside after hearing that new research has suggested that attractiveness is more important in the city than in more rural areas.
Researchers from UCL and the University of Oxford are claiming that attractive males release fewer sperm per mating to maximise the number of offspring they can produce. Because more attractive males have greater access to a range of females, the optimum strategy is to produce less sperm and mate with more females. This means that attractive males may be less fertile than unattractive males.

Facebook Relationships

A University of Kansas professor is researching details of relationships forged on social networking sites and determining their significance, depth and potential.
A couple of weeks ago we reported on research from the University of Nottingham that showed that being kind or altruistic was attractive to both sexes. Now more research, this time from the University of Rochester, published online today in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, shows that males are not only more attracted to women wearing red, but that they are also more likely to spend more money while out on a date. What's more, men are completely unaware of the influence of the colour red.

Just make sure you get seen helping old ladies across the road, giving up your seat on the bus and helping your psychology teacher whenever you possibly can and the ladies (or gents) will be falling at your feet. According to new research from Nottingham University, being altruistic or selfless can be sexually attractive to both sexes.

Are Women Really Choosier Than Men?

Written by Keiron Walsh
Evolutionary theories of sexual selection claim that as females are limited in the number of offspring they produce, whereas men are not, females have to be more careful in who they choose as a partner. Males, on the other hand, benefit from being less choosy and fathering lots of children. However, new research to be published in Psychological Science suggests that in particular social circumstances the roles are reversed and men are more choosy than women.
